What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment that uses concentrated light energy to target hair follicles. The Trilogyice device combines three different laser wavelengths to effectively treat a wide range of hair and skin types, making it one of the most versatile and comfortable hair removal systems available.

Considerations

Laser hair removal is a safe and well-established treatment, but there are a few things to consider:

  • Downtime: Most people can return to daily activities straight away. Mild redness or sensitivity may occur for a few hours post-treatment.

  • Treatment Plan: Hair grows in cycles. Multiple sessions (usually 6–8) are needed to achieve the best results.

  • Aftercare: You’ll need to avoid sun exposure, heat treatments, and active skincare products on the area for a short time (generally 4 days), and caution must be taken with sun and UV exposure for at least 4 weeks after treatment (you can be more susceptible to burning and there is a risk of developing hyper pigmentation in the skin).

  • Suitability: While Trilogyice works on a wide range of hair types, very light, grey, or red hair may not respond as effectively.

How Does It Work? (The Science Made Simple)

Laser hair removal works by directing concentrated light energy into the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle. This energy is converted into heat, which damages the follicle and disrupts future hair growth. The goal is to deliver enough damage to the follicle that it never recovers or heals. The Trilogyice device combines three wavelengths in a single handpiece — targeting different depths of the follicle for maximum effectiveness. Its advanced cooling technology ensures comfort and safety throughout treatment.

The Treatment Journey

Consultation:

We begin with a full consultation and patch test to assess your skin type, hair type, and medical history. This ensures treatment suitability and safety.

During Treatment:

A cooling gel is applied to the area before the Trilogyice handpiece is passed over the skin. Most clients describe the sensation as a gentle warmth with minimal discomfort. Sessions can take as little as 10 minutes for small areas, or up to an hour for larger areas.

Aftercare:

You may experience slight redness that settles quickly. We’ll provide tailored aftercare advice, including the importance of SPF and avoiding sunbeds or tanning during your course.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will I need?

Typically 6–8 sessions are recommended, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by occasional maintenance. Generally treatments above the neck are 4 weekly and treatments on the body are 6 weekly (the hair 'turns over' through different follicles at different rates). Some people may need more treatments to achieve the level of hair reduction they want.

Is it painful?

Thanks to Trilogyice’s advanced cooling system, most clients find it very comfortable compared to older laser devices. You will feel a prickling sensation and heat (which is necessary for the treatment to be successful).

When will I see results?

Hair reduction can often be seen after the first few sessions, with significant improvement after a full course.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal provides long-term reduction. Some follicles may produce new hair over time, so maintenance sessions may be needed. Some people may never grow the hairs back even after many years, some may need occasional maintenance and sometimes hair growth may develop in response to changes in the body (particularly hormones and during body events such as pregnancy).

When is the best time to treat?

During the autumn and winter months when there is less sun and heat to limit you post treatments is often considered the best time to undertake laser hair reduction treatment.

Is there anywhere you cannot treat?

Yes - we cannot treat mucous membranes. So any hairs arising from inside the nose or on mucous membranes on the inside of the inner labia.

We cannot treat eyelashes. While we have suitable eye shields to protect the eyes, our device and training do not cover us for removing any problematic eyelashes - this is a highly specialist treatment.

Are there any hair types that respond better or worse than others?

Yes, generally dark hairs absorb the light better and deliver that heat to the follicle. Very light blonde or white hair may not absorb the light as well and reduce how well the treatment works.

What about skin colour - does this effect treatment?

Yes. The general rule of thumb is that hairs have to be darker than the surrounding skin. This way - the darker pigment in the hair absorbs the light and heat. If the skin is darker than the hair then the hairs will not absorb the light over the surrounding skin. The Trilogyice's broad treatment range allows us to treat people from Fitzpatrick type 1 to type 5 skin (very fair white to brown skin). Type 6 skin is dark brown and black skin - unfortunately we cannot treat Fitzpatrick 6 skin types.

People with Fitzpatrick 4 and 5 skin must in particular be cautious about sun exposure - they are more at risk of developing pigment.
